Managed Pub and Restaurant operators experienced a strong growth in sales last month, according to new figures from the Coffer Peach Business Tracker.

Britain is continuing to go out to eat and drink – particularly in managed pubs and branded restaurants; with a 6.1% spike in like-for-like sales displayed in statistics from April.  The Pub sector outperformed Restaurant chains, with a 4.4% increase, nationally, compared to the same figures from last year. While Restaurants grew by 1.5%.

Speaking on behalf of the CGA Peach, Vice President, Peter Martin said:

“Although trading over the Easter weekend was not as good this year compared to the four-day holiday in 2016 […] the boost that the break provides to the sector can still be seen in April’s trading growth. Taken together, the two months’ numbers show there is still underlying growth in the sector, and especially among pub groups”.

April’s total sales growth demonstrates the clear and continual impact of new openings seen during 2017.  The underlying annual sales trend displays sector like-for-likes running at 1.1% ahead for the 12 months to the end of March.
